Marketing Manager of The Girls Gone Green, Brandy Carvalho, was recruited to offer insight about a mandated 18-page Water Quality Report delivered to every JEA customer's home.

JEA alone spends $35,000 annually to produce hardcopies of the report. But in today's digital age, why not save the money and save the environment by offering the same report online - for free?  The Environmental Protection Agency mandates the report and states it will enable Americans to make practical, knowledgeable decisions about their health and their environment.

The Girls Gone Green asks - how can you promote a healthy environment while mandating a practice that ultimately causes harm?  Let us know your thoughts.

ARBUS - The Arts and Business Magazine of Northeast Florida, did a very nice layout on our meat-free campaign called No Meat March.  No Meat March is a 31-day challenge for people to try meatless meals with the support of businesses, restaurants and the community.

ARBUS Magazine even hosted a great event which become a part of No Meat March inspiring to bring together the cultural community with an afternoon and evening festival.

Stay connected with them on Facebook and keep informed about the growing and ever-expanding art community here in Jax!

The Florida Times-Union

Jacksonville's newspaper, The Florida Times-Union also covered our No Meat March campaign highlighting the benefits of giving your body a break from meat.  It was the second year from No Meat March in March 2012 and we basically tripled the number of participants from the previous year!

After the campaign wrapped up on March 31, 2012 many of the majority of those who took the pledge said they would continue a meat-free or meat-limited diet.  Many of the No Meat Marchers touted how much better they felt and the claimed their new eating habits helped them to feel energized, sleep better, lose weight, lower their cholesterol levels and high blood pressure and just feel good all around.

It's never too early to sign up for next year.  Are you ready to take the No Meat March challenge and reinvigorate your body for 31 days?  Click here to sign up!

Folio Weekly

The Folio Weekly highlighted a figure competition Julie Watkins entered as a vegan last October.  The number one question she gets asked by people when they learn she does not consume meat is, "Where do you get your protein?"

She chose to answer that question by entering a competition that judges bodies on protein-building elements like muscle-definition and body shape to prove the last thing a plant-based eater needs to worry about is a lack of protein.

A hyper-local newspaper picked up the story about about a vegetarian trainer helping one of The Girls Gone Green get ready for a figure competition.  Again the focus was on how to train and build muscles without consuming animal-protein which can ultimately wear and tear the body.  People are just now beginning to understand the connection between high amounts of animal protein and the toll it takes on one's digestive tract when consuming those kinds of meals in large quantities.

This article highlighted the benefits of training on a plant-based diet including faster recovery time, consuming easily assimilating proteins like hemp and rice and reducing foods high in cholesterol and saturated fats.  You can check out other no-meat athletes here.  The long list of meat-free bodies include Atlanta Falcon's Tony Gonzalez, MMA fighters Jake Shields, Mac Danzig and the Diaz Brothers and the very buff Green Mile actor, Michael Clark Duncan.

Julie Watkins also wrote a blog while training for her competition.  To check it out, just click here.
